It's 9:39PM as I write this post on the second day of the new year 2007. Tomorrow we should begin the new era where the Democrats control the House of Representatives and The Senate. It will be a time to really see if the elected Democrats will do what the people elected them to do or will they ally themselves with the corporate interests who realize that the Republicans they manipulated for the past twelve years are not that popular with the vast majority of US citizens. I have already heard a lot of talk about "bipartisanship" How we must have a return to a genuine two party system. To be bluntly honest that is a lot of bull_ _ _ _. We didn't have any bipartisanship when Republicans were in control. Democrats had no say in legislation and were forced to have their meetings in the basement thanks to Mr. Sensenbrenner. There are many Democrats (once again the DLC types primarily) who are waiting patiently to play nice and forget about the past and make a new start. I am not ready to play nice with Republicans. I say to hell with that crap and stick it to the Republicans the same way that they have stuck to us. I am encouraged by those Democrats who champion a liveable minimum wage and cutting the interest rates on loans to college students and going after the war profiteers (Halliburton, Bechtel, Titan etc). All of these initiatives are wonderful but true democrats should go even farther. One of the first things that should be done is to repeal those huge tax cuts that the super rich enjoy. Take away those subsidies that Exxon-Mobil enjoys. They use their massive profits to try to convince the rest of us that there is no such thing as global warming. Let's bring back the fairness doctrine that Ronald Reagan destroyed. In that way (expletive deleted)drug-abusing neo-cons like Rush Limbaugh wouldn't be able to pollute the airwaves. I would love to see Limbaugh go one on one with Howard Zinn or see Bill O'Reilly one on one with Randy Rhoades. Every time we see a progressive Democrat on these conservatively biased cable news shows we always have three neocons against one progressive. The fairness doctrine would give equal time. The reason why so many people in the United States are so misinformed is because they view Fox, which intentionally misinforms or the other networks which covertly misinform. ( Wolf Blitzer apologizes for calling "Osama" "Obama" anyone who seriously believes that was an honest mistake is either criminally naive or a damned fool.)Let's bring back regulation. De-regulation has been a cash cow for the energy giants. California was hit very hard by the Enron boondoggle. If energy operatives were closely watched we wouldn't have any Enrons or Tycos seriously jeopardizing the pensions of the employees who have faithfully worked for these sinister enterprises. For God sake get rid of the archaic, totally assinine abstinance policies propagated by the religion right. These morons have made it US policy to deny contraceptives to the sexually active here and abroad. The corporate media won't tell you but the facts indicated that the abstinance policy is a miserable failure both here and abroad. The Bush administration is singlehandedly responsible for the explosion of AIDS in African countries like Uganda who were making progress in the fight against AIDS until the Bush administration denied them condoms or insisted that any financial aid be connected to a cessation of condom use. These the types of issues I would like to see brought to the Congress. I have no concern whatsoever for Republican sensibilities. I am not afraid of being called unpatriotic like so many of our feeble minded Democrats who were part of the 109th DO NOTHING CONGRESS. With all my heart I hope that this is the beginning of a new day...once again only time will tell.
